Government says it is committed to streamline regulatory processes along the exports value chain in line with the national goal of achieving export-led economic growth.
In a speech read on his behalf at the 2016 Exporters Conference hosted by ZIMTRADE, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Cde Mike Bimha highlighted that government is alive to the urgent need to improve the ease of doing business adding that the proposed setting up of National Competitiveness Commission will assist in addressing the inhibiting factors to increased exports.
“As government, we are working on ensuring that regulatory processes do not negatively impact on export business as part of broader efforts to improve the ease of doing business and promoting exports,” he said.
ZIMTRADE Chief Executive, Ms Sithembile Pilime said while the trade body applauds government efforts in promoting export-led growth, there is need for regulations which stimulate competitiveness.
Zimbabwe’s current trade performance remains unsustainable with cumulative trade deficit for the year as at 31 August reaching US$1.8 billion.
According to market analysts, there is need to improve the ease of doing business for exporters given the fact that exports are a source of money in the economy.
