The government says the Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) for exports is expected to boost the country’s export receipts this year as a number of challenges facing exporters will be dealt with by the first quarter of this year.
The initiative for the ease of doing export business is being spearheaded by ZimTrade in collaboration with the Office of the President and Cabinet as well as the Ministry of Industry.
The Senior Principal Director in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr Solomon Mhlanga said the two committees namely; the Export Capacity Committee and Export Regulations Committee, which are being led by the private sector, seek to address some of the challenges that exporters face on a daily basis.
ZimTrade CEO, Ms. Sithembile Pilime, said the initiative will see exports growing in 2017 considering that a lot of work has been done so far whose results will be witnessed by the end of the first half.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Mrs. Abigail Shoniwa said the government is happy with the progress made so far, adding that the Rapid Results Initiative will boost productivity levels within the manufacturing sector.
Under the2017 national budget, the government emphasised the need to boost production within all sectors of the economy as a way of increasing export receipts.
The existence of the Statutory Instrument 64 of 2016 is also playing a critical role in ensuring local industries boost their capacity utilisation.
