The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) was created through an Act of Parliament in 1985 and has been ‘Championing’ the promotion and development of the arts sector by providing support, initiating arts programmes and forging partnerships with key stakeholders in the arts and culture sector.
The main function of National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) is to foster, develop and improve the knowledge, understanding and practice of the arts and their presentation, performance, execution and the exhibition of the same to various publics.
NACZ has a Head Office which is in Harare, a Culture Centre in Murewa and 10 Provincial offices country wide to ensure that it interacts and services artists, arts and culture organisations for the development and promotion of the sector. These offices have at least a Provincial Arts Manager and a Programme officer who ensure that NACZ roles and functions are fulfilled.

A NACZ office has some resources and opportunities for the artists. These offices can be a great asset for all types of artists. Some of the services offered include

Events
This is a platform where NACZ recognises excellence in creativity and talent. The major aim of the awards is to stimulate artistic creativity and originality. The awards cater for all arts disciplines in the country that are dance, visual arts, theatre, literary arts, music, media, spoken words, and film and television. The awards have enabled Zimbabwean products to be marketed locally, regionally and internationally. The use of the words NAMA award winner in arts promotional material is just an example of how important these awards are to Zimbabweans.
This is a national arts and culture festival to celebrate World Culture Day of Diversity and Dialogue proclaimed by UNESCO around the 21 May. Activities are held throughout Zimbabwe for the whole week. NACZ has a role to publicise the event and encourage communities to hold events that celebrate and promote their culture.
This is a dance festival for primary school pupils. The festival aims at preserving traditional dances especially among the young Zimbabweans at primary school level. The festival is open to all primary schools in the country. This Festival has indeed led to the promotion and preservation of different traditional dances like Mbakumba, Jerusarema Mbende, Amabhiza, Mhande and Isitshikitsha. The Festival has also enabled the different school children to appreciate different dance types.
A festival that celebrates the Jerusarema Mbende dance that was proclaimed a masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage by UNESCO. It is performed by the community of Murewa and Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) in the North Eastern Districts of Zimbabwe.
National Arts and Culture Indaba is a National Arts & Culture Strategy Dialogue held annually to discuss, deliberate and recommend specific courses of action in the creative industries. It is a platform for stakeholders in the arts and culture sector to meet and dialogue on issues affecting the development and future of the sector, as well as taking stock of the challenges the sector could be facing.
Dance development festival organised by Delta Beverages with assistance from NACZ and Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association (ZNTDA).
The Embassy of Italy in partnership with National Arts Council of Zimbabwe holds a Musica Festival every year in October. The Festival is designed to give Italian international and Zimbabwean artists an opportunity to work and perform together. Many fruitful forms of association have ensued, greatly boosting opportunities for musical growth and commercial development in Zimbabwe. Normally a series of concerts, workshops and seminars are organised during the festival.
